1 3-inch piece of Frieda’s fresh ginger, sliced (use a 4-inch piece for a zippier broth)
1 3-inch piece of Frieda’s fresh turmeric root, sliced
2 large carrots, scrubbed and roughly chopped
1 sweet apple, cored and chopped
1/2 yellow onion, peeled and chopped
3 celery stalks, roughly chopped
3 large garlic cloves, peeled and smashed
1 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
1/2 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
4 cups filtered water
Combine all ingredients in slow cooker and turn to low setting. Place lid on slow cooker and allow broth to simmer 8-12 hours.
Place mesh strainer or bag over large bowl or pitcher. Carefully strain broth through strainer or mesh bag to catch solid pieces. Taste broth and add more salt to taste.
Allow broth to cool to room temperature. Pour into airtight container and store in refrigerator up to four days. Reheat individual portions on stove or in microwave.
